Iran puts to death two individuals found guilty of espionage on behalf of Israel

Iran carried out the executions of two men on Monday, who had been found guilty of spying on behalf of Israel, as stated by the judiciary, marking the latest instance of hangings related to alleged espionage cases.

The executions have surged in Tehran since the onset of the conflict with Israel and the United States, which began in February, with numerous convicts facing charges of spying for Israeli intelligence agencies.

According to Mizan, the media outlet of Iran's judiciary, Omid Behzad and Pouria Safvat were hanged for providing Mossad agents with the coordinates of sensitive military and security sites.

The judiciary's media outlet did not disclose the dates of the pair's arrest or trial but mentioned that they were convicted of espionage and collaboration with the Zionist regime.

Mizan further stated that Behzad and Safvat assisted the intelligence services in achieving their objectives by supplying them with information on military and security centers during the war.

The number of executions in Iran has increased significantly since the start of the conflict, which erupted on February 28 with massive US-Israeli strikes that resulted in the death of Iran's supreme leader.

Iran ranks as the world's second-most prolific executioner, surpassed only by China, according to rights groups such as Amnesty International.

Iran Human Rights, an NGO based in Norway, and Together Against the Death Penalty, headquartered in Paris, reported that the authorities executed at least 1,639 people last year, marking a record high since 1989.

Amnesty International denounced the escalation in executions on Tuesday, following Iran's announcement of the hanging of two men found guilty of participating in anti-government protests during the winter.
