Investigation Underway for Two Ogun Fathers Accused of Smuggling Their Daughters to Libya

Ogun State Commander of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, Bose Jimoh, revealed on Thursday that an investigation is underway into allegations against Akinsanya Oladimeji, 55, and Kehinde Rasheed, 45, for reportedly trafficking their 15-year-old daughters to Libya for child labour.

The suspects allegedly sent their daughters, Adeola and Rokibat Adeyemi, through the desert to Libya in 2024, where they were received by Afusat Akinsanya, the wife of one of the suspects and mother of Adeola.

Rasheed, a widower, claimed that Afusat Akinsanya informed him in February 2025 that his daughter, Rokibat, had died from an illness while in Libya, a claim that emerged after he allegedly attempted to cover up her death.

According to Bose Jimoh, Rasheed only admitted to the alleged crime after facing sustained pressure from his late wife's family, who were demanding to know the whereabouts of Rokibat.

The family members reportedly took their concerns to the police, leading to the arrest of the two men, and the case was subsequently transferred to NAPTIP for further investigation.

NAPTIP is now handling the case, which was handed over by the Nigeria Police Force, with the goal of holding the suspects accountable for their actions through a thorough investigation.

The investigation aims to uncover the circumstances surrounding the death of Rokibat Adeyemi, as well as to ensure the safe return and repatriation of the second 15-year-old victim, who is still in Libya.
