Dolly Parton’s death has been followed by an escalating legal dispute involving her nephew, Bryan Seaver, who was removed from his longtime role as head of security before her estate sought a restraining order against him.

Seaver’s security company was removed from Parton’s properties in September, with replacement security taking over locations including her Nashville residence, museum, downtown home and warehouse.

The termination notice said Parton’s properties and professional business interests were held by the DP Dean Trust and stated that Seaver’s personal interest in the trust remained intact.

Following his dismissal, Seaver and his security team told TMZ they were “dismayed by the unexpected and, so far, unexplained actions” taken after Parton’s death.

They also said they “remain unshakably resolved to fulfill her final directive to protect her family” and would not be intimidated by people whose actions they believed were being taken in bad faith and to profit from Parton’s life.

What does Parton’s estate allege?

The dispute escalated when Nozell, through She’s Alive, sought a temporary restraining order against Seaver.

According to court documents obtained and reported by TMZ and PEOPLE, the estate alleges that Seaver embarked on what it described as a campaign of threats, intimidation and coercion, including demands for money.

The estate alleges that Seaver invoked his claimed military-contractor experience, access to weapons and capacity for violence while communicating with people connected to Parton’s business interests.

One alleged message cited in the court documents read: “I am about to become the hand of retribution for my entire family.”

Another allegedly warned: “All I do is warfare … everyone needs to be worried about what I might do.”

The estate also alleges that Seaver threatened to damage Parton’s business relationships and brand.

According to PEOPLE’s account of the court filing, Seaver allegedly told one of Parton’s longtime lawyers: “I’m not an entertainment person. I’m a killer.”

The allegations have not been established as facts in court, and Seaver has disputed the circumstances surrounding his dismissal.

Seaver and his security company have portrayed his removal differently.

In their statement to TMZ, they said they were “dismayed by the unexpected and, so far, unexplained actions” following Parton’s death.

Seaver had earlier appeared in a video on Parton’s Instagram account to announce her death, identifying himself as her nephew and saying he had served as her head of security for more than 20 years.
