Insecurity: Army seeks stronger inter-agency collaboration

The Nigerian Army has called for stronger collaboration among security agencies as part of efforts to address the diverse security challenges confronting the country, including insurgency, terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and militancy.

The Commander of the 4 Special Forces Command, Doma, Nasarawa State, Major General Olurotimi Awolo, made the call on Monday during the opening of the week-long Command Operations Planning Cadre 2026.

Awolo noted that Nigeria’s security threats vary across regions and require specialised responses, training and coordination among security personnel operating in different theatres of operation.

He explained that the training programme was designed to equip personnel within the command’s Area of Responsibility with the operational knowledge needed to effectively respond to emerging security challenges.

The commander said the cadre, themed “Tactical Leadership Capacity Building and Multi-Agency Approach to Asymmetric Operations in Joint Operations Area,” was timely given the nature of operations currently being undertaken by the Armed Forces and other security agencies across the country.

According to him, participants were drawn from formations and units of the Armed Forces as well as other relevant security agencies operating within the command’s area of responsibility.

“The essence of including other security agencies in this training programme was necessitated by the notion that confronting the numerous security challenges across the nation requires integrated collaboration among all relevant stakeholders in the security domain,” Awolo said.

He added that the initiative aligns with the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, which seeks to transform the Nigerian Army into a more professional, adaptable, combat-ready and resilient force capable of operating effectively within a joint and multi-agency environment.

Awolo urged participants to pay close attention to the lectures and presentations, particularly those focusing on inter-agency collaboration in addressing contemporary security challenges and logistics planning in military operations other than war.

He noted that such knowledge would be especially beneficial to young officers who may be deployed to various operational theatres across the country.

The commander also expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff for his leadership and support, noting that the successful organisation of the cadre was made possible through his approval and funding.

He further thanked the resource persons, senior military officers and other invited guests for their contributions to the programme and willingness to share their professional experiences with participants.

Awolo charged attendees to apply the knowledge and ideas acquired during the training to effectively address operational challenges in the field.

“It is my belief that they will find this training very useful as they engage in future operations,” he said before formally declaring the 4 Special Forces Command Operations Planning Cadre 2026 open.
