Initial memorial prayers for Buhari are set to take place on Monday

Former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad has unveiled plans to host a prayer and remembrance gathering to commemorate the first anniversary of the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, with the event scheduled to take place on Monday, July 13.

The gathering aims to pay tribute to Buhari's life and years of dedicated service to Nigeria, as announced by Ahmad in a statement posted on his official X page on Tuesday.

According to Ahmad, the event will bring together family members, friends, associates, and Nigerians in a solemn remembrance to honour the late president's life, legacy, and enduring service to the nation, one year after his death.

Ahmad described the late former president as a leader who embodied commitment, integrity, discipline, and patriotism, leaving an indelible mark on Nigeria's history through his contributions to national development.

The planned gathering will feature prayers and reflection, with participants seeking Allah's forgiveness for Buhari's shortcomings and praying for his soul to be granted Al-Jannah Firdaus, while also offering comfort to his loved ones and the nation.

The statement concluded with a heartfelt prayer, "May Allah grant him eternal rest, Ameen."

Former President Buhari passed away on July 13, 2025, at the age of 82, in a London clinic, following a prolonged illness, and his remains were subsequently flown back to Nigeria for burial in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.

Buhari served as Nigeria's democratically elected leader from May 29, 2015, to May 29, 2023, making history as the first opposition candidate to defeat an incumbent president after winning the 2015 presidential election.
