India reign supreme at 2026 Commonwealth Fencing Championships

India has continued to dominate the 2026 Commonwealth Fencing Championships in Lagos, winning 17 gold, 13 silver and 13 bronze medals with two days left for the competition to end.

The Indian team have excelled across all three weapons—epee, sabre and foil—beating competitors from Australia, England, Wales, South Africa and host nation Nigeria. They have also won medals in the newly introduced wheelchair events.

The Indian men and women have both reached the podium, while the veteran category is yet to be contested.

England are second on the medal table with two gold, two silver and nine bronze medals. Nigeria and Cyprus complete the top four.

Nigeria recorded a historic achievement through 17-year-old Oghenegaren Osievwo-Thompson, who won the country’s first-ever international fencing gold in the men’s U-23 epee.

Top-rated Oluwafolayemi Akinyosoye also won a bronze in the men’s sabre, while Nigeria’s wheelchair team claimed two silver and eight bronze medals, making it the country’s best outing yet.

Cyprus, represented by a single athlete, won a gold medal. Australia have two silver and three bronze medals, South Africa have two silver and one bronze, while Northern Ireland and Wales each have a bronze.

With two days remaining, India remain firmly at the top of the medal table, underlining their dominance at the championships in Lagos.
