I’m an incurable romantic, RMD reveals he gave his wife ₦100m cheque

Veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, has revealed that he once gave his wife, Jumobi, the first ₦100 million cheque he received.

Speaking in an interview on with Morayo on The Morayo Show, which began trending on Wednesday, the 65-year-old actor described himself as an “incurable romantic,” saying he enjoys showering his wife with gifts because gift-giving is her love language.

According to RMD, one of the greatest compliments he receives from his wife is hearing that the important things she owns were bought by him.

“I’m an incurable romantic. These days, it isn’t about flowers and chocolates anymore because ladies like money,” he said.

Recalling the moment he received his first ₦100 million cheque, the actor said he immediately instructed his manager to hand it over to his wife.

“The first biggest cheque I ever received was for ₦100 million. When it was presented to me, I told my manager to give it to my wife. When she got it, she asked if I wanted her to keep it for the children. I told her no, that she should keep it for herself and do whatever she wanted with it,” he said.

RMD added that he knew most of the money would eventually be spent on their children.

“The trick is that I know 90 per cent of the money will eventually end up being spent on the children. I like giving my wife the biggest things I have so she never has to ask for anything. All the big and beautiful things in the house are hers,” he said.

RMD married Jumobi, a former television presenter, in 2000, four years after the death of his first wife, May Ellen Ezekiel. The couple celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in December 2025.

The Delta-born actor has four children, two from his first marriage and two from his current union.
