Ignorance of constitutional principles is driving turmoil within political parties, according to DLA chairman

Mr. Samuel Memeh, the national chairman of the Democratic Leadership Alliance, has pinpointed intolerance by the Federal Government and straying from the constitution as key factors contributing to the instability plaguing many political parties in the country.

Memeh made these remarks during his official visit to the Osun State chapter of the party on Tuesday, where he also assured that the DLA will adhere to the constitution's guidelines.

The DLA chairman outlined the party's vision as building a Nigeria where the government prioritizes the needs of its people, and stated that the party was founded to offer Nigerians a credible alternative based on competent leadership, integrity, accountability, innovation, economic productivity, and people-centred governance.

According to Memeh, Nigeria's primary challenge lies not in a lack of resources, but rather in a shortage of purposeful leadership, prompting the party's mission to develop leaders who possess the necessary competence, character, and courage to transform the nation.

Memeh noted that the current government's intolerance of other political parties, coupled with deviations from party constitutions, has created an environment conducive to litigations and instability.

Regarding the upcoming Osun governorship poll, Memeh stated that the DLA will not be fielding a candidate, but will decide on who to support at the appropriate time.

He urged the people of Osun to maintain peace throughout the electoral process and exercise their democratic rights responsibly.

Tosin Odeyemi, the Osun State acting chairman of DLA, expressed the party members' readiness to work diligently and establish the party's structures across all 332 wards in the state.

Odeyemi, who previously served as the Osun State Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, had resigned from the party and subsequently emerged as the acting state chairman of the newly registered Democratic Leadership Alliance.

Odeyemi, an ally of former Kano State Governor, Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, submitted his resignation in a letter dated July 16 to the NNPP National Chairman, without disclosing the reason behind his decision.
