Idris approves creation of eight new village headships

The Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, has approved the creation of eight new village headships under Koko District in Koko/Besse Local Government Area of the state.

The approval was contained in a statement issued to journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Garba Umar Dutsinmari.

According to the statement, the newly created traditional offices are: Hakimin Dandashe, Hakimin Unguwar Albarkawa, Hakimin Unguwar Gwadabawa, Hakimin Unguwar Wurya, Hakimin Unguwar Illo, Hakimin Unguwar Mallamawa, Hakimin Kawo and Hakimin Unguwar Rafin Kada.

The newly appointed traditional title holders are: Alhaji Kabiru Sama’ila Danduste as Hakimin Dandashe; Alhaji Salihu Bello as Hakimin Unguwar Albarkawa; Alhaji Sama’ila Firchin Tukura as Hakimin Unguwar Gwadabawa; and Abdullahi Salihu as Hakimin Unguwar Wurya.

Others are: Mustapha Muhammad, Hakimin Unguwar Illo; Alhaji Ahmed Salihu, Hakimin Unguwar Mallamawa; Alhaji Musa Salihu, Hakimin Kawo; and Alhaji Ibrahim Salihu Koko, also known as Sarkin Kudun Koko, as Hakimin Unguwar Rafin Kada.

Dutsinmari said the appointments were made in accordance with the Kebbi State Local Government Law, 2008, particularly Section 10, Subsections (A) and (B), which empowers local governments on matters relating to the creation of village heads.

He urged the new traditional office holders to justify the confidence reposed in them by the government and their respective communities.

> “I urge the newly appointed traditional office holders to uphold discipline, honesty, transparency and dedication in the discharge of their responsibilities,” the commissioner said.

He added that the appointments were based on the appointees’ records and demonstrated capacity to serve their communities effectively.

The commissioner assured the new village heads of the continued support and cooperation of Governor Idris and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

He said the government expected the traditional rulers to contribute meaningfully to grassroots administration, peacebuilding and community development.

Arewa PUNCH reports that the development is part of the state government’s broader commitment to strengthening traditional institutions and improving grassroots governance across Kebbi State.

The government also expressed its determination to use traditional institutions as partners in promoting peace, unity and sustainable development across the state.
