I will continue to pray for Nigeria’s unity until I die – Kalu

A former Abia State Governor, Senator Orji Kalu, has said increased investment and stronger measures to tackle insecurity are essential to achieving sustainable economic growth in Nigeria.

He also said that Nigeria is one, and that he will continue to pray and plead for the unity of this country until he dies.

Kalu stated this while receiving a souvenir from Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, at the end of his visit to the state, where he commissioned 10 road projects executed by the Aliyu administration in the Arkilla New Layout.

According to a statement issued by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Sokoto, Abubakar Bawa, Kalu said insecurity was hindering Nigeria’s quest for a stronger economy capable of improving the living conditions of citizens.

He advocated stringent measures to address the nation’s security challenges to achieve sustainable economic growth.

“The current insecurity in the country is hindering Nigeria’s quest for a more vibrant economy capable of improving the living conditions of its citizens.

“What this country needs is economic expansion so that there can be money, prosperity and goodness for Nigerians. This is what the country needs,” Kalu also said.

The former governor commended President Bola Tinubu for efforts to expand the Nigerian economy, noting that it was performing well at the macroeconomic level.

“Things might look difficult today. Yes, as you can see, I am an industrialist. The macroeconomy is doing well, but the microeconomy is not doing well. I told the President this,” Kalu informed.

He further explained that while the economy appeared strong at the top, its benefits were yet to adequately reach ordinary Nigerians, a situation he partly attributed to the prevailing security challenges across the country.

Kalu expressed optimism that with the right investment in security, “the gains of the economy would be enjoyed by all Nigerians”, adding, “Nigeria is one, and I will continue to pray and plead for the unity of this country until I die.”

He also thanked Aliyu for inviting him to commission the road projects in the state.
