Hostage fights back against captor, helping lead to assailant's capture in Ondo

A suspected kidnapper has been apprehended by the Ondo State Police Command in Isua Akoko, which is the headquarters of Akoko South-East Local Government Area, and his victim has been successfully rescued. The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, was abducted by three individuals on a farm, but managed to escape after engaging in a physical altercation and injuring one of his captors.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, issued a statement on Tuesday, revealing that the anti-kidnapping unit of the command is handling the matter for further investigation.

According to Jimoh, on April 10, 2026, a report was filed at the Isua Division by Ahmadu, stating that two young men had gone to Ipesi Akoko for cattle rearing, but one of them failed to return home.

The police promptly initiated a coordinated operation, which led to the successful rescue of the kidnapped victim, who recounted being abducted at night by three suspected kidnappers.

During the abduction, the victim resisted his captors and inflicted a head injury on one of the suspects, a detail that would later aid in the suspect's identification.

Acting on credible information obtained from the victim, operatives from the Isua Division apprehended a suspicious individual with a visible head injury at Obasanjo Motor Park, Isua, at approximately 0609hrs.

The police spokesman stated that the suspect has confessed to being part of the kidnapping gang, and the victim has identified the suspect, noting the injury inflicted on him.

The victim has been taken to the hospital for medical attention, while the suspect has been transferred to the anti-kidnapping unit for further investigation and will be charged in court upon conclusion of the investigation.

On Monday, residents of Imoga Community in Akoko Edo Local Government Area arrested a kidnap kingpin, Ismaila Ibrahim, who was identified by one of his escaped victims, Mallam Jamilu, a cow dealer in Ibillo.

The National Coordinator of the Movement for the Advancement of Akoko Edo People, Bode Ekundayo, said the suspect was arrested on Thursday, and another person has also been arrested after making a confessional statement.
