Gunmen who abducted victims shot dead by Imo law enforcement in crackdown

A recent security operation in a forest in Imo State resulted in the neutralisation of two suspected kidnappers and the rescue of two kidnapped victims, following a fierce gun battle between security operatives and the kidnappers.

The operation was prompted by an intelligence report, which led to the mobilisation of police operatives and local vigilantes to the forest where the victims were being held, as disclosed by the Nigerian Police Force Public Relations Officer, Ani Iniedu.

Upon arrival, the security team came under attack from the kidnappers, sparking a gun duel that ultimately led to the neutralisation of two of the suspected kidnappers, while others escaped with gunshot injuries, according to Ani Iniedu.

Ani Iniedu confirmed that the kidnappers engaged the security operatives in a intense gun battle, resulting in the neutralisation of two kidnappers, while others managed to escape with gunshot injuries.

The statement from the Nigerian Police Force also revealed that the two kidnapped victims were rescued unharmed, with Ani Iniedu stating that the two victims were successfully rescued without sustaining any injuries.

A vigilante member who participated in the operation, however, sustained a gunshot injury and was later confirmed dead at a hospital, as stated by Ani Iniedu, who expressed regret over the loss of life.
