Gunmen launch assault on Rivers security agency, leaving one person hurt and prompting locals to evacuate.

A brazen attack on the headquarters of OSPAC, a local security organization, has left one officer injured after gunmen opened fire on the facility located at Erema Street in Omoku town, within the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.

OSPAC, which stands for Onelga Security and Peace Advisory Committee, was targeted in the incident that occurred at approximately 8:10pm on Saturday night, prompting widespread panic among residents and passersby in the area.

The motives behind the attack remain unclear as of the time of this report, but it has been established that the assailants arrived at the scene in two vehicles, including an ash-colored Lexus Jeep.

Godknows Nkem, the Public Relations Officer of OSPAC in Rivers State, revealed in a statement to the press on Sunday that the organization's office serves as a hub for lodging complaints, but expressed shock at the gunmen's ability to drive into the premises and initiate a shooting spree.

Nkem disclosed that one of the organization's personnel suffered a bullet wound to the ankle, but fortunately, no fatalities were reported, and the station guards were able to repel the attack.

The OSPAC spokesperson emphasized the importance of the organization in maintaining order in the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA and Rivers State, while also highlighting the challenges faced by its personnel, including the lack of welfare provision over the past eight months.

Nkem urged residents of ONELGA to remain calm and go about their daily activities without fear, assuring that the perpetrators of the attack would be apprehended.

Blessing Agabe, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command and an Assistant Superintendent of Police, confirmed the incident on Sunday afternoon and stated that an investigation is currently underway.

Agabe noted that while no arrests have been made yet due to the late-night timing of the incident, the investigation aims to uncover the identities of the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
