Guidance on Accessing 2026 WAEC Examination Results via the Internet

The West African Examinations Council has made the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination results available, and has also provided a guide on how candidates can access their results online. nn

Candidates can now view their results online by first generating or recovering their result checker PIN, according to an update posted by WAEC on its official X handle on Wednesday. nn

To check their results for the first time, candidates must follow a series of steps, starting with obtaining their Serial Number and PIN, which are required to access their examination results. nn

If a candidate does not have their Serial Number and PIN, they can recover them by visiting waec.org, clicking on the "Serial Number and PIN" menu, selecting the 2026 examination year, and entering their examination number and National Identification Number. nn

They will then need to enter their email address and phone number to receive a One-Time Password, which they can use to recover their Serial Number and PIN. nn

WAEC has also made it possible for candidates to download their WAEC ID card to their mobile devices through the portal. nn

The next step involves visiting the WAEC result portal at waecdirect.org using any internet-enabled device. nn

Here, candidates will need to enter their 10-digit examination number, which consists of a 7-digit centre number and a 3-digit candidate number. nn

For example, a candidate's examination number could be 4123456789, with the first 7 digits representing the centre number and the last 3 digits representing the candidate number. nn

Candidates must then select the 2026 examination year from the available options. nn

In addition to selecting the examination year, candidates must also choose the correct examination type for their result. nn

They will then need to enter their Serial Number and PIN, which they generated or recovered from the WAEC portal, to access their results. nn

Once they have entered the required information, candidates can click Submit to view their results, which can be printed or saved for future reference. nn

Candidates can also use the WAEC Result Checker app to check their results, by downloading the app from the Google Play Store and following the in-app instructions. nn

To use the app, candidates must enter their examination number, select the examination year, enter their Serial Number and PIN, and then submit to view and download their result. nn

Candidates without internet access can check their results via SMS by typing in their examination number, PIN, and examination year, and sending it to the official WAEC SMS number. nn

For example, a candidate could send the message "WAEC4123456789123456789012*2026" to the WAEC SMS number, and standard SMS charges will apply. nn

WAEC uses a grading system that ranges from A1 to F9, with A1, B2, and B3 representing Distinction and Merit, and C4, C5, and C6 representing Credit passes. nn

D7 and E8 are considered Ordinary passes, while F9 represents a Fail, and candidates typically need at least five credit passes, including English Language and Mathematics, with a minimum grade of C6, to be eligible for admission to most Nigerian universities. nn

If a candidate believes there is an error in their result, they can submit a complaint through WAEC's official channels or visit the nearest WAEC office for guidance on the result verification and review process. nn
