Governors, others converge on Delta for Oborevwori’s son’s wedding

Asaba, Delta State capital, on Saturday hosted Nigeria’s political, traditional and business elite as Innocent Oborevwori, son of the state Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, married Tobore Arigbodi.

Tobore is the daughter of Chief Brodericks Arigbodi.

The wedding attracted serving and former governors, National Assembly members, political leaders across party lines, monarchs, religious leaders, business executives and other dignitaries from across the country.

Among the governors who attended were Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma; Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni; Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo; Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri; Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri; Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo; Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa; Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani; Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu; and Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago.

The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Monday Onyeme, was also present, alongside his counterparts from Ebonyi and Kano states.

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof Nentawe Yilwatda, attended the ceremony. The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, also attended.

Former Delta State governors, James Ibori and Ifeanyi Okowa, were also among the dignitaries.

Others included Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, Senator Ede Dafinone, members of the National Assembly, Minister of State for Health, Dr Tunji Alausa, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Emomotimi Guwor, former speakers of the Assembly and APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.

Prominent traditional rulers at the ceremony included the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, Major General Felix Mujakperuo (retd.); Olu of Warri, Atuwatse III; and Dein of Agbor, Keagborekuzi II.

The business community was represented by Chairman of Access Bank Plc, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede; Managing Director of Zenith Bank Plc, Dr Adaora Umeoji; UBA Managing Director, Oliver Alawuba; and Managing Director of PremiumTrust Bank, Emmanuel Efe Emefienem, among others.

First Ladies from several states, including Kwara, Kogi, Gombe, Taraba, Nasarawa, Cross River, Ekiti, Sokoto, Kaduna, Borno, Bauchi, Abia, Osun, Edo and Imo, also attended the ceremony.

The solemnisation of the marriage took place at Living Faith Church, Winners’ Chapel, Ibusa Road, Asaba.

In his sermon, the State Pastor, Pastor Shiyanbade Adekunle, charged the couple to build their marriage on wisdom, sacrificial love, mutual respect and commitment.

Adekunle described wisdom as the “working capital of marriage”, urging the newlyweds to depend on God and His Word as they navigate the different stages of married life.

The reception, held at the Event Centre, Asaba, was chaired by the Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani.

Sani congratulated the couple and their families, describing the wedding as more than a celebration of love.

n

He said the marriage symbolised the coming together of two families, histories and destinies.

n

“It is with profound joy and a deep sense of privilege that I stand before you today as chairman of this beautiful reception, celebrating a union that has brought together two families, two histories and two destinies in the sacred covenant of matrimony,” Sani said.

The governor said the wedding marked the fulfilment of parental hopes and the beginning of a new chapter for the couple.

He urged them to build a home founded on peace, love, prayer and understanding.

n

“May your home be a place of peace when the world is at war, a place of laughter when days are hard, and a place of prayer when challenges come,” he said.

Sani wished the couple a long, fruitful and fulfilling marriage.

The wedding turned Asaba into a meeting point for Nigeria’s political, traditional, religious and business elite, with dignitaries from different political parties joining Governor Oborevwori and his family to celebrate the union.
