Governor Wike gives nod to career advancement of over 3,500 Abuja-based government employees

Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has given his approval for the promotion of 3,592 civil servants, following the successful completion of the 2025 promotion exercise, which was conducted by the FCT Civil Service Commission.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by Emeka Ezeh, Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, through a statement shared by Lere Olayinka, the minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media.

The promotion exercise was part of the celebrations marking the third year anniversary of President Bola Tinubu, during which the FCT witnessed the commissioning and flag-off of over 30 projects from June 8 to July 17, 2026.

According to Emeka Ezeh, the development demonstrates the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s commitment to staff welfare, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The promotion examinations for senior officers took place between July 1 and 3, while junior staff sat for their examinations on July 10, as announced by the Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission.

Emeka Ezeh commended Minister Nyesom Wike for providing the necessary support that enabled the commission to carry out the exercise successfully, and also disclosed that the minister had directed the commission to commence the 2026 promotion exercise immediately.

The directive, according to Ezeh, reflects the administration’s determination to complement ongoing infrastructure development in the FCT with improved staff welfare and career progression, ensuring that civil servants benefit from the achievements recorded under the Tinubu administration.

Ezeh praised FCT civil servants for their peaceful and orderly conduct during the 2025 promotion exercise, and urged officers expected to participate in the 2026 exercise to maintain the same level of discipline and professionalism.

The Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission also appreciated the leadership of the Joint Union Action Committee for its cooperation and support, which contributed to the successful conduct of the promotion exercise.

Prospective candidates for the 2026 promotion exercise were advised by Ezeh to begin preparations early, as promotion in the FCT Civil Service is merit-based, highly competitive, and subject to the availability of vacancies.
