Governor Oyebanji directs complimentary healthcare services for recently rescued abduction survivors

Following the release of the Eda Oniyo kidnap victims, Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has ordered the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti, to conduct thorough medical screenings and provide necessary treatment for the freed individuals.
nThe directive, announced on Saturday by Yinka Oyebode, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, also tasks the State Ministry of Health and Human Services with overseeing the victims' welfare and wellbeing, with the State Government covering all related medical expenses.
nThe victims were kidnapped on April 28, 2026, at Eda Oniyo in the Ilejemeje Local Government area of Ekiti State, during an event at Christ Apostolic Church, where a pastor was fatally shot by the kidnappers.
nOne of the kidnapped persons also lost their life while in captivity, highlighting the gravity of the situation.
nAccording to Yinka Oyebode, the freed individuals, currently under care at the teaching hospital, will remain under medical supervision until they are deemed fit to reunite with their families.
nGovernor Oyebanji has expressed his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his support in ensuring the victims' safe return, as stated by Oyebode.
nThe governor has also commended the heads of security agencies, the Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers, community leaders, and the State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria for their roles in securing the victims' release.
nGovernor Oyebanji reiterated his administration's commitment to protecting lives and property, urging those politicizing the incident on social media to cease and instead collaborate with the government to build a safer and more prosperous state.
nThe governor extended his condolences to the family of the victim who tragically died in captivity, offering his heartfelt sympathy.
