Governor Diri commissions new bridge in Yenagoa funded by House of Representatives member

Douye Diri, the Governor of Bayelsa State, has officially launched a constituency bridge project in Opolo community, Yenagoa Local Government Area, which was constructed by Oforji Oboku, the member representing Yenagoa/Kolokuma/Opokuma Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

The governor also gave his approval for the construction of a road that will connect the community to the Gloryland Drive in Yenagoa, further highlighting his commitment to development in the region.

Diri commended Oforji Oboku for undertaking the massive project, noting that it is a rare feat for a lawmaker to embark on such an expensive undertaking, and expressed his appreciation for the federal lawmaker's dedication to his constituents.

He praised Oboku, saying that completing a project of this magnitude would have taken a full tenure and even more, and that it is a testament to the lawmaker's commitment to his people, as he believes that charity begins at home.

In response to an appeal for state government intervention in a long-standing dispute between Opolo community and its neighbours, Okutukutu and Edepie, Diri urged the communities to maintain peace for the sake of development and progress.

In his welcome address, HRH Inia Nengibo, the paramount ruler of Opolo, said that the project aligns with the governor's prosperity administration agenda, particularly in the area of urban renewal.

Nengibo appealed for the construction of a road to link the bridge to the new Yenagoa City, which would improve socio-economic activities in the community and its environs, and enhance commerce, security, and movement of people.

Oforji Oboku, the representative, explained that the landmark project aims to connect island communities, improve accessibility, enhance security, and promote socio-economic development, which would positively impact lives and stimulate economic activities within the community.

Oboku shared his personal connection to the project, recalling how his people had prayed for a bridge to be built across the creek, and now, with the privilege of being in a position to make a difference, he decided to construct the bridge, and expressed his gratitude to the governor for his support.

In a goodwill message, Dr. Konbowei Benson, the Senator representing Bayelsa Central in the Senate, said that the project complements the governor's infrastructure development and urban renewal efforts, highlighting the collaborative approach to development in the region.
