Gombe State Security Corps Arrests Trio for Posing as Officials, Holding Bogus Identification Documents

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has taken three individuals into custody in Gombe State on allegations of impersonation, forgery, and possessing counterfeit identification cards and uniforms belonging to the corps.

Those arrested include Auwal Umar, a 26-year-old from Tukulma in Akko Local Government Area, as well as Hamza Usman, 23, and Yakubu Muhammad, 22, both from Herwagana, Gombe.

The suspects were showcased at the NSCDC State Command in Gombe, where the Commandant, represented by Public Relations Officer CSC Buhari Saad, revealed that the individuals were found with NSCDC volunteer identification cards and uniforms in their possession.

According to Buhari, the authenticity of the suspects is questionable because the corps does not provide identification cards to its volunteers, prompting concerns about potential impersonation of personnel.

Buhari outlined the details of the suspects, stating that they include Auwal Umar, a 26-year-old male from Tukulma, Akko Local Government Area, Hamza Usman, a 23-year-old male from Herwagana, Gombe, and Yakubu Muhammad, a 22-year-old male also from Herwagana, Gombe.

The discovery of the uniforms and identification cards on the suspects has raised red flags about possible attempts to masquerade as corps personnel, with Buhari emphasizing that the NSCDC does not issue identification cards to its volunteer members.

Buhari reiterated that the suspects were found with NSCDC volunteer ID cards and uniforms, which is unusual since volunteer members do not have any form of identification, and added that the suspects will be prosecuted in court once investigations are complete.

The NSCDC has warned the public to exercise caution when dealing with individuals claiming to be personnel or volunteers of the corps, advising that their identities be verified properly.
