Gombe State Legislative Council Upscales 28 Staff Members, Lets Six Go Into Retirement

The Gombe State House of Assembly Service Commission has given its approval for the promotion of 28 staff members, while also ratifying the retirement of six officers who have completed their mandatory 35 years of service, as decided during the commission's maiden full-commission sitting on Wednesday, chaired by Sadiq Ibrahim.

The commission's decisions were made following recommendations from the Senior and Junior Establishment Committees of the State House of Assembly and the Assembly Service Commission, as stated in a statement issued by the commission.

Sadiq Ibrahim, the chairman of the commission, reiterated the commission's commitment to addressing staff welfare and career progression issues in line with its statutory responsibilities during the sitting.

Ibrahim stated that the commission would prioritize staff welfare while ensuring employees fulfill their responsibilities, saying "We are committed to carrying out the task entrusted to us by His Excellency, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, particularly in handling all issues pertaining to staff welfare in accordance with the Commission’s establishment law."

The commission's meeting was followed by a courtesy visit from the leadership of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, representing both the House of Assembly and Assembly Service Commission chapters, who congratulated the chairman and members on their appointments by the governor and pledged their support.

The PASAN delegation appealed to the commission to prioritize timely staff promotions, capacity building, and improved welfare, and also called for the prompt implementation of staff promotions, training programs, and workshops to enhance worker capacity.

The association further appealed for the payment of wardrobe allowance to Assembly staff, and Ibrahim responded by thanking the association for the visit and pledging to work closely with PASAN to improve the commission's effectiveness.

Ibrahim expressed his appreciation for the visit and the support extended to the commission, saying "We appreciate the leadership of PASAN for this visit and for the support extended to the commission, and we will work closely with you as partners in progress for the betterment of the Commission and the state."

The chairman assured the association that the issues raised during the visit would be given due consideration, but warned staff against indiscipline, urging them to demonstrate commitment to their duties.
