Gombe gov names chairmen, DGs, 26 senior special assistants

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, on Thursday approved the appointment of new chairmen, directors-general and senior special assistants as part of measures to strengthen governance and improve coordination across key sectors of the state.

The Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibrahim Njodi, who announced the appointments in a statement, said the new officials were expected to support the administration’s economic, political, social and community engagement programmes.

Njodi said Dr Kabiru Hassan had been appointed Executive Chairman of the Gombe State Urban Planning and Development Agency, while Dr Abdullahi Lamido would serve as Director-General, Economic and Social Reforms Coordination, Governor’s Office.

He added that Prof. Hassan Bello had been appointed Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, while Dr Takkani Solomon Jiga would serve as Director-General, Educational Reforms Coordination, Governor’s Office.

The SSG also announced the appointment of six Senior Special Assistants I responsible for political matters and community engagement.

They are Mohammed Danlami Isah, Timothy S. Labatak, Mahmud Muhammad (Wafa), Muhammad Bashir Isa (Sarkin Tafarkin Funakaye), Haruna Jonga and Hon. Adamu Bello (Laro).

Under the Senior Special Assistant II category, Maikudi Yagana and Manu Dumbati were appointed to handle Political and Community Relations, while Atiku Muhammad (Boza Boza) was appointed Senior Special Assistant II on Public Communications.

Others appointed as Senior Special Assistants II are Hassan Bappa (Sarkin Goro), Yunusa Jiji, Maikudi Sarkin Manja, Muhammad Adamu Muh’d, Arabi Usman, Ibrahim Dahiru, Idris Sani Mohammed, Abdulhadi Haruna Usman, Ahmed Lamido, Philemon Ezra, Barnabas Masfara, Kanadilan Nuhu and Alfred Bobby.

The governor also appointed Talatu Adamu, Vasty Saleh, Ladi Alhaji Adamu and Faratu Ahmad Nafada as Senior Special Assistants II on Women Mobilisation.

Njodi said the appointments were intended to strengthen government coordination and enhance the administration’s engagement with communities and stakeholders across the state.

He said, “The newly appointed officials are expected to bring their wealth of experience to bear in the discharge of their responsibilities and contribute meaningfully to the implementation of government policies and programmes.

“They are also expected to strengthen coordination across key sectors, enhance community relations and support the administration’s reform agenda.”

The SSG stated that all the appointments took effect from August 19, 2026.
