Gombe approves N260m for grains market relocation

The Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, has approved N200 million for the relocation of Tudun Hatsi Market to Dukku Road, with an additional N60 million earmarked as compensation for residents and traders affected by the exercise.

The Commissioner for Information, Moses Kyari, disclosed this in a statement on the latest government approvals, saying the intervention was aimed at improving urban planning, traffic management and the safety of traders and residents.

Kyari said the relocation would provide a more suitable environment for commercial activities while ensuring that the interests of affected residents were taken into consideration.

He said, “A total sum of N200 million has been approved for the relocation and associated infrastructure requirements, while an additional N60 million has been approved as compensation for individuals affected by the relocation.”

According to the commissioner, the compensation is part of the government’s effort to minimise the impact of the relocation on people whose livelihoods may be affected by the development.

He added, “The compensation provision reflects the administration’s commitment to ensuring that government development interventions are implemented with due consideration for the interests and livelihoods of affected persons.”

Kyari explained that the relocation was also expected to address traffic and urban planning challenges associated with the existing market location.

He stressed that the exercise would create “a safer and more conducive environment for traders and residents” while promoting a more orderly arrangement of commercial activities.

The commissioner further pointed out that the relocation would provide an opportunity for the government to preserve a historical mosque located within the existing market area as a state monument.

He maintained, “The relocation is expected to preserve a historical mosque as a state monument and to contribute to better traffic management, improved commercial planning and a more organised trading environment.”

Kyari insisted that the new location along Dukku Road would provide the market with an environment better suited for commercial activities and urban development.

The government, he highlighted, remained committed to implementing development projects in a manner that balanced public interest with the welfare of citizens affected by such interventions.
