Ghana law enforcement thwarts attempted heist at bank, fatally shoots two perpetrators, apprehends another

According to the police statement, an intelligence report was received at approximately 10:45am on August 13, 2026, indicating that a gang was preparing to launch an attack on GCB Bank, Ecobank, and Zenith Bank, all situated in Labone.

A police team was swiftly deployed to the scene, where the gang members were spotted occupying vehicles parked in close proximity to the banks, prompting a swift response from the authorities.

Upon noticing the police presence, one of the vehicles hastily sped away in an attempt to escape, leading to a high-stakes chase that culminated in the arrest of suspect Augustine Okechuku Maazi, while the other occupant managed to flee the scene.

The robbers in the second vehicle also attempted to escape, but their efforts were met with resistance from the police, resulting in a intense shootout that ultimately led to the demise of two suspects.

The police successfully recovered two vehicles, including a Toyota Highlander with registration number GS-1434-18 and a Hyundai Tucson with registration number GS 7915-17, in addition to a blow pistol.
