Ghana approach Palace striker Nketiah over international switch – Report

Ghana have approached Crystal Palace striker Eddie Nketiah over a possible switch of his international allegiance from England, according to Standard Sport on Thursday.

The report stated that the 27-year-old is considering the approach but has yet to decide whether to represent Ghana, the country of his parents’ birth.

Nketiah, who was born in Lewisham, south London, to Ghanaian parents, represented England at youth level and became the country’s Under-21s all-time leading scorer.

He made his only senior appearance for England in October 2023 when he replaced Ollie Watkins in the 73rd minute of a 1-0 friendly win over Australia at Wembley.

His single senior cap means he remains eligible to switch allegiance under FIFA’s eligibility rules, provided he meets the applicable conditions.

Ghana are keen to add the Palace striker to a squad that already includes Manchester City winger Antoine Semenyo and Coventry City midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi.

Nketiah joined Palace after leaving Arsenal and has started all three of the club’s Premier League matches this season under new manager Pierre Sage.

His start to the campaign comes after an injury-hit period last season.

Standard Sport reported that Ghana have maintained a long-standing interest in Nketiah and have made another approach in an attempt to convince him to play for the Black Stars.
