Genk consider offloading Sor

Belgian Jupiler Pro League outfit KRC Genk are considering the possibility of selling new Super Eagles invitee, Yira Sor, whose contract will expire at the end of next season, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

With just a year left on his current deal, it is increasingly likely that Sor will leave the Belgian club in the summer transfer window, with no talks over a contract extension with his employers.

Sor, who represented Nigeria at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup, recently received his first Super Eagles call-up for the March internationals against Iran and Jordan.

This season, he has made 15 starts out of a possible 46 appearances across all competitions, and reports in Belgium suggest he is no longer a guaranteed starter.

According to Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws, via Voetbal Primeur, Genk believe this is the right time to sell Sor, given that his contract runs out at the end of next season and there have been no discussions regarding an extension.

Having played 39 games this season, he has recorded six goals and two assists across all competitions.

Genk are preparing to restructure their squad, and the forward is reportedly not in the club’s current plans.

He joined Genk for a fee of €6.5m in January 2023, and his current transfer value has dropped to around €3m.

In recent seasons, Genk have generated significant profits from the sales of Nigeria international forwards Paul Onuachu and Tolu Arokodare.

Meanwhile, he will hope to get his first taste of the Super Eagles camp in Turkey during this international window, when Nigeria face Jordan and Iran in friendly matches.
