Gas Turbine Ready for Commissioning in April — Gov. Diri
The Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency Senator Douye Diri, has once again assured the people of the state that the long-awaited state-owned Gas Turbine project is ready for commissioning.
According to the governor, the facility is expected to be officially commissioned in April 2026 by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces,Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Senator Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
This latest assurance comes in the wake of growing concerns from citizens and activists who had earlier reminded the governor of his previous promise that Bayelsans would begin to enjoy 24-hour electricity supply by the end of March—an assurance that was not fulfilled.
Notably, this April timeline marks the fifth time the governor has made a public commitment regarding the completion and commissioning of the gas turbine project.
Reacting to the development, activist and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Inko Brightstar, questioned the credibility of the governor’s latest promise.
In his words:
“We are used to these same stories, and I am not surprised at all. Only the gullible will continue to believe these recycled assurances.
A gas turbine declared ready for commissioning without proper test running? What a miracle indeed.”
Chief Brightstar further called for transparency and accountability, urging the state government to provide verifiable evidence of the turbine’s readiness rather than relying on repeated public assurances.
