The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority has garnered crucial backing from the community for its Quality Bus Corridor Package 1 project, a sweeping initiative that promises to revamp the Ketu Lay-by into a state-of-the-art bus terminal, replete with modern amenities, bound for Demurin.

On Thursday, a high-stakes meeting was convened with Agboyi-Ketu's leadership, culminating in the finalisation of plans for this pivotal project, a cornerstone of the Ketu–Alapere–Akanimodo corridor, designed to eradicate traffic congestion and provide a safe, organised environment for thousands of daily commuters.

The development is anticipated to bring about a significant reduction in traffic bottlenecks, while also providing a dignified and structured setting for the myriad commuters who utilise the route on a daily basis, with the ultimate goal of streamlining transport services in the area.

The gathering was attended by a coterie of community leaders, with the Oba of Ketu-Kosofe, Dr Oba Isiaka Balogun, at the helm, alongside an array of local government officials, including the Vice Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Ganiu Fatai, the Secretary to the Local Government, Tajudeen Akinyemi, and the Leader of the Legislative Arm, Aderoju Adekunle.

Other notable dignitaries in attendance included the Majority Leader, A. Rahman, the Special Adviser on Youth and Community, Mutiu Kalejaiye, as well as several ward councillors, among them Fatai Akinyemi, Kazeem Balogun, and Chief Whip, Mashood Fashanu, all of whom played a crucial role in the deliberations.

Femi Fayombo addressed stakeholders, informing them that contractors were poised to commence work on the site, and while the terminal's modernisation had expanded the original project scope, the Lagos State Government had reaffirmed its commitment to the initiative as a vital intervention aimed at enhancing the quality of life and transport efficiency in the Ketu axis.

S.A. Agbomeji, Director of Transport Policy and Coordination, speaking on behalf of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, outlined the project's operational framework, underscoring the importance of mutual cooperation between the government and the community in ensuring the project's success.

A formal commitment is expected to be signed, guaranteeing that market women and traders will vacate road shoulders and relocate to designated stalls, thereby ensuring safety and preventing any obstruction of the project site, while non-regulated transport operators will be required to adhere strictly to designated loading and off-loading zones.

The Ketu modern bus terminal is an integral component of the broader Lagos Strategic Transport Master Plan, an ambitious initiative aimed at integrating bus, rail, and water transport systems into a unified urban mobility network, designed to streamline transport services across the city.
