Friends demand justice for slain ex-OGTV broadcaster

Friends of the slain former Ogun State Television broadcaster, Kitan Oyesiku, have called on the state government and security agencies to intensify efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding her death and bring those responsible to justice.

The group, under the aegis of Friends of Kitan Oyesiku, appealed in a statement signed on Tuesday by Oluwaseun Boye, on behalf of the group.

The demand comes days after Oyesiku and her security guard were found dead at her residence in Iyana Agodo Village, Ogun State.

PUNCH Metro had earlier reported that the Ogun State Police Command commenced an investigation into the deaths after a resident raised an alarm over suspicious activities at the deceased’s residence.

Our correspondent had gathered that police detectives who visited the scene reportedly discovered signs of forced entry and disturbance.

The corpse of the security guard was said to have been found in the security post, while Oyesiku’s body was later discovered inside her apartment.

The police had also stated that Kitan’s Lexus RX300 vehicle, initially reported missing, was subsequently recovered during ongoing investigations.

Speaking via the statement, the group described Oyesiku as a peaceful, kind-hearted, and compassionate woman whose life was cut short in a cruel manner.

“Kitan was a peaceful, kind-hearted, and compassionate woman whose life was cut short in a cruel and senseless manner. She did not deserve such a painful end.

“Her death has left her family, friends, and everyone who knew her devastated,” the statement read.

The group, while commending the state police command, urged the state government and relevant authorities not to allow the case to be abandoned.

Boye wrote, “We commend the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, and officers of the Ogun State Police Command for the steps taken so far in the investigation. We appreciate their commitment and encourage them to sustain the momentum until every individual connected with this heinous crime is identified, arrested, and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” the group stated.

“We respectfully appeal to the Ogun State Government and all relevant authorities not to allow Kitan’s murder to be swept under the carpet. Justice must not only be done but also be seen to be done.

“Bringing the perpetrators to justice will reassure the public that no life is insignificant and that criminal acts of this nature will not go unpunished.”

The deceased’s friends also appealed to members of the public to support investigators with useful information that could aid the ongoing probe.

They expressed optimism that the truth surrounding the incident would emerge and that those responsible would be held accountable.

Boye added, “We also renew our appeal to members of the public: if you know something, please say something. Any credible information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could be the breakthrough investigators need to ensure justice for Kitan.

“We remain hopeful that the truth will prevail and that those responsible for this horrific act will be brought to book.”

The Ogun State Police Command had on Monday said Ojajuni visited the scene of the incident and assured residents that significant progress was being made in the investigation, adding that all available resources were being deployed to track down those responsible for the killings.
