Forty squads to compete in third annual Spires divisional five-a-side title contest

Forty teams are set to lock horns in the third edition of the Spires 5-Aside Naija Street Soccer divisional qualifiers.

The tournament will be played across five divisions in Lagos, with three teams from each division qualifying for the state championship later in the year.

Representatives of the participating teams, including coaches, players, team managers and other technical staff, were present at the draw ceremony held at the Spires headquarters in Victoria Island on Tuesday.

In the Lagos Island division, Loverboy FC will file out against Dolphin FC, JS Sport FA will take on The Alphas FC, Greater Tomorrow Kings FC will face an opponent yet to be confirmed, while Cohesion All Stars will entertain White Tigers.

In Epe, Prime 11 will host Abayomi FC, Prodigy Football Club will face Netbreakers FC, Angos Sports FC will take on Top Football Club, while The Crown FC will square up against Papa SA.

In Ikorodu, Godbless FC will face Better Tomorrow, Oreon & Leon FC will clash with Amuludun Football Club, Adhoc FA will take on Diamond FC, while Lofty Skills will battle New Generation Football Club.

Fixtures in the Ikeja division will see Dboss FA face Blood and Sand FC, Zion FC take on Useful Youth FC, Akanbite FC host ASD Academy, and Osykay FC square up against Wasola FA.

Action in the Badagry division will see Royal FC host Smiller All Champions, Divinely Blessed FC entertain Chekas United, Rising Star FC face All Saints Football Club, and Olhan FA battle Emaljus FC.

The draw ceremony also had in attendance chairmen and other representatives of the respective Divisional Football Associations.

The initiator of the tournament, Bankole Allibay, said this year’s event is aimed at projecting players for possible contracts with clubs across Africa and Europe.

“The have a couple of clubs from outside Nigeria who have shown interest in some of our players from the last edition. Representatives from those teams will be in Lagos for the state championship,” he said.

Allibay added that the Sports Meet-Tech component has been expanded to accommodate more participants beyond the players registered for the tournament.

The third edition of the Spires 5-Aside Naija Street Soccer divisional qualifiers will kick off on Saturday, April 11, with action in the Ikeja division.
