Former Oyo State Coordinator Speaks Out on Decision to Quit City Boy Movement

Ahmed Ajibola, the former Oyo State Coordinator of the City Boy Movement, has come forward to explain the reasons behind his resignation, citing concerns over the state structure's direction and disagreements with the leadership as the primary motivators for his decision.

According to Ajibola, also known as General H, his resignation is rooted in personal principles and convictions, and should not be misconstrued as a withdrawal of support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the administration's Renewed Hope Agenda.

In a statement posted on Instagram on Friday, Ajibola addressed reports circulating on social media that claimed he had been removed as the movement's Oyo State coordinator and had made derogatory comments about President Tinubu, Seyi Tinubu, and other leaders of the movement, describing these reports as "false, malicious, and misleading".

Ajibola asserted that he was not dismissed, suspended, or terminated from his position, emphasizing that he had voluntarily resigned, and noted that he was appointed Coordinator, Directorate Affairs at the state level by the Oyo State Director on August 1, 2026.

He also received another appointment from the national leadership on August 5 as Coordinator, Stakeholder Engagement, South-West Structure, but declined both appointments before tendering his resignation, asking rhetorically, "If I had truly been sacked, where is the letter of dismissal, termination, or removal from office?"

In his resignation letter addressed to the national leadership of the movement, Ajibola expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve as Oyo State coordinator, but stated that he had decided not to accept the new positions offered to him, citing principle rather than bitterness as the reason for his decision.

Ajibola believes that leadership should be built on "fairness, loyalty, transparency, competence, and mutual respect", and felt that developments within the Oyo State structure had convinced him that he could no longer continue with the movement "in good conscience".

The former coordinator expressed disappointment with the direction of the movement at the state level, particularly under its newly appointed leadership, stating that "certain actions and decisions have fallen short of the values that inspired many of us to dedicate our time, energy, and resources to the growth of this movement".

Despite his resignation, Ajibola maintained that his decision was not a rejection of Tinubu or his administration, stressing that "my support for Tinubu remains unwavering".

Ajibola emphasized that leaving the City Boy Movement did not affect his support for the President, and that he remained committed to promoting the achievements of the administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda, as well as supporting Tinubu's re-election bid in 2027.

Ajibola also denied making derogatory statements against Tinubu, Seyi Tinubu, the Director-General, or other members of the movement's national leadership, challenging those circulating the allegations to provide evidence and urging the public to disregard them.

The former coordinator expressed gratitude to members of the movement who worked with him across Oyo State, stating that "positions may be given and positions may be taken away, but character, integrity, and service remain permanent".

Ajibola chose to step away from the movement with his dignity intact, his conscience clear, and his gratitude unwavering towards those who believed in him and stood beside him throughout his journey, and he wished the City Boy Movement success in its future activities.

In a separate social media post accompanying his statement, Ajibola reflected on his decision, writing, "Not every battle is worth fighting, and not every environment aligns with your values, sometimes, the greatest act of leadership is knowing when to walk away with your principles, dignity, and self-respect intact".
