Former NMA leader enters Ondo senatorial contest, endorses Tinubu's bid

A former President of the Nigerian Medical Association, Prof. Francis Faduyile, has declared his intention to contest the Ondo South Senatorial bye-election while rallying support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

Faduyile made the declaration while speaking with journalists in Okitipupa, headquarters of Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Friday.

The senatorial seat became vacant following the appointment of Senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

Following the declaration of the seat vacant by the Senate, the Independent National Electoral Commission fixed June 20, 2026, for the conduct of the bye-election.

The former NMA president said he was ready to complete the remaining tenure of Ibrahim and provide quality representation for the people of Ondo South Senatorial District.

“Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim has laid a good foundation, and his legislative impacts have put Ondo South on a pedestal of prominence. So I am eminently qualified to complete the term of the renowned Ambassador.

” I have a blueprint for ensuring adequate legislation is worked on to consolidate the issue of security. Internal vigilance is the price of liberty, and awareness about the environment by both indigenes and settlers is of the essence,” he said.

Faduyile, a medical practitioner and former Special Adviser on Health Matters to late former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, also pledged to champion legislations aimed at improving healthcare delivery, women and youth empowerment, as well as employment opportunities across the six local government areas in the district.

He added that he would align his representation with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu.

“We must get ourselves together and work for the reelection of Mr President. We must all work together to ensure President Bola Tinubu scores more than 1million votes in Ondo State, come 2027,” he said.
