Former Minister Maku and Former Senator Abbo Collect Labour Party Nomination Forms, Set Sights on Governor and Senate Seats in 2027

Labaran Maku, the former Minister of Information, and Ishaku Abbo, a former Senator representing Adamawa North, have taken a significant step towards contesting in the 2027 general elections by obtaining Expression of Interest and Nomination forms from the Labour Party, just days after leaving their previous political parties.

This development comes after they defected from their former parties, with Maku leaving the Social Democratic Party and Abbo exiting the African Democratic Congress, both citing unresolved internal crises and disputes as the reasons for their departure.

Maku and Abbo picked up the forms on Wednesday at the Labour Party secretariat in Abuja, where they were joined by other aspirants seeking various elective positions, including Emmanuel Ben, who is eyeing the governorship seat in Akwa Ibom State.

Maku is set to contest for the Nasarawa North Senatorial District seat, while Abbo is seeking the Labour Party's governorship ticket in Adamawa State, as the party continues to attract new members ahead of the 2027 elections.

Other aspirants who procured forms include Adamu Blanzou, who is running for the Akwanga North/Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, Jesse Ayenajeh, who is seeking the Toto Federal Constituency seat, and Chidiebere Anyanwu, who is eyeing the Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Federal Constituency seat.

In his remarks to journalists after obtaining his forms, Maku expressed his admiration for the transparency of the process and voiced his confidence in the Labour Party's electoral prospects, stating that the party has gained the trust and support of Nigerians.

Maku further emphasized his conviction that the Labour Party will emerge victorious in the next general elections, from the presidency to governorship elections, particularly in Nasarawa State and his Senatorial District, where he believes the party has a strong chance of winning.

Similarly, Abbo commended the growing influence of the Labour Party and praised the leadership of the party's National Chairman, Nenadi Usman, for repositioning the party and expressed optimism about the party's chances in Adamawa State and the North-East region ahead of the next elections.
