Former media assistant to Ganduje defects from APC to join ADC

A significant shift in allegiance has occurred with Salihu Yakasai, a former Director-General of Media and Communications to Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, as he has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress to join the African Democratic Congress.

This development was announced by Yakasai himself in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Monday, following discussions with his family, friends, and associates in the political sphere.

Yakasai expressed his decision, stating that after consulting with family, friends, and fellow political activists, he has chosen to embark on a new journey with the ADC Party, and has already submitted his formal exit from the APC and registered with his new party.

He extended an invitation to those interested in joining the ADC, providing a link for registration and assuring that membership cards would be issued promptly, while expressing his hopes and prayers for the party's success and its potential to benefit all Nigerians.

It is noteworthy that Yakasai had previously defected from the APC in 2022 to join the Peoples Redemption Party, with the intention of contesting the 2023 gubernatorial election, only to rejoin the APC thereafter.

The timing of Yakasai's latest defection coincides with a surge in momentum for the ADC, which recently welcomed nine senators from various parties in mid-March 2026, positioning the party as a rising force in Nigeria's opposition politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
