Former Lagos first lady praises Supreme Court ruling upholding Oyebanji's electoral victory

Sentator Fatimat Raji Rasaki, a former First Lady of Lagos State, has extended congratulations to Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji on the Supreme Court's judgment affirming his election as the state's validly elected governor, also urging stakeholders to come together in pursuit of peace and development.

Rasaki, who previously served as a senator representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District, viewed the Supreme Court's ruling as a decisive victory for democracy, the rule of law, and the collective aspirations of Ekiti State's people.

In a congratulatory message released in Ado Ekiti on Sunday, Rasaki stated that the judgment has effectively ended all legal disputes surrounding the governorship election.

The apex court's decision, according to Rasaki, has eliminated all legal uncertainties, allowing Governor Oyebanji to focus on providing the people of Ekiti State with the benefits of democracy without distraction.

Oyebanji's victory in the June 20 governorship election was challenged by Abimbola Olawumi, the African Democratic Congress candidate, who petitioned the Election Petition Tribunal to nullify the election outcome.

The tribunal dismissed the petition, a decision that was later upheld by the Court of Appeal, and ultimately affirmed by the Supreme Court in a unanimous judgment delivered on Friday.

Reacting to the verdict, Rasaki called upon the state's political leaders, traditional rulers, youth groups, and residents to accept the judgment and support the governor, regardless of their political affiliations.

Rasaki emphasized that the Supreme Court's judgment presents an opportunity for all Ekiti State residents to unite and work together for the state's continued growth and prosperity, setting aside partisan considerations.

The former lawmaker urged candidates from other parties who participated in the election to support the administration rather than pursue actions that could disrupt the state's peace.

Rasaki reaffirmed her commitment to supporting policies and programs aimed at improving the welfare of Ekiti State's people, strengthening democratic institutions, and accelerating socio-economic development.

Rasaki praised Governor Oyebanji for his calm and steadfast leadership throughout the legal process, noting that his dedication to governance has earned him the confidence and admiration of stakeholders.
