Former Bauchi Lawmaker Defects from APC to Join PRP

Aminu Danmaliki, a former House of Representatives member, has made a significant shift in his political allegiance, resigning from the All Progressives Congress to join the Peoples Redemption Party, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Danmaliki, who has been active in politics since 2003 and previously represented Bauchi Federal Constituency, announced his decision during a press briefing on Saturday, citing a thorough process of reflection, consultation, and consideration.

He emphasized that his move was guided by principle, rather than political expediency, stating that it was about prioritizing principles over convenience, conviction over comfort, and the people's interests over power.

Danmaliki clarified that his departure from the APC was not driven by resentment, but rather a conviction that leadership must address the struggles of ordinary Nigerians, and he expressed his decision to join the PRP without bitterness or malice.

The former lawmaker highlighted the country's economic challenges, noting that millions of Nigerians are grappling with hunger, unemployment, poor healthcare, and limited educational opportunities, emphasizing that government should protect and empower citizens, rather than exacerbate their difficulties.

Danmaliki described the PRP as a platform founded on social justice, accountability, quality education, affordable healthcare, rural development, and economic opportunities, stressing that the party's ideals remain relevant to Nigeria's current realities.

Regarding Bauchi State, Danmaliki observed that the state is endowed with vast agricultural, mineral, and human resources, but has been hindered by poor leadership and inconsistent implementation of people-oriented policies.

He reflected on his years of public service, including his roles as a journalist, commissioner, member of the House of Representatives, entrepreneur, and founder of educational and healthcare institutions, affirming his commitment to improving people's lives.

Danmaliki declared his support for Senator Shehu Buba, who will be the PRP's candidate in the 2027 Bauchi State governorship election, describing the senator as a courageous, visionary, and committed individual.

He pledged to utilize his political experience and networks to ensure the PRP's success in the state, and called on various groups, including youths, women, farmers, artisans, traders, professionals, traditional rulers, and religious leaders, to support the party.

Danmaliki urged politicians to adopt issue-based campaigns, rather than engaging in divisive politics, and expressed optimism that, with honest leadership and prudent resource management, Bauchi State and Nigeria can overcome poverty and achieve sustainable development.
