Fire service saves N20m property in Gombe fire

The Federal Fire Service, Gombe State Command, has saved property estimated at N20m from a fire outbreak at the staff quarters of the Gombe Media Corporation on Saturday.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday, September 19, 2026, affected a residential building within the GMC staff quarters.

A statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the FFS Gombe State Command, ASF Muazu-Bashir Musa, said the command received a distress call at 4:06pm and immediately mobilised an FFS 215 Multipurpose Water Tender from the ATM Fire Operation Base.

According to the statement, the fire truck left the base at 4:10pm and arrived at the scene at 4:25pm, where firefighters commenced operations to contain the blaze.

The statement said, “The fire involved a residential building within the staff quarters and was suspected to have been caused by an electrical fault.”

It added that firefighters successfully extinguished the fire and prevented it from spreading to other parts of the premises.

The command estimated the value of property lost in the incident at N6m, while property worth approximately N20m was saved.

“No casualty was recorded,” the statement said.

The operation was led by DSF Ali Kidams, with IF Adamu Babayo serving as the driver, alongside other crew members.

Personnel from the FFS 256 Mega Park Fire Station, Gombe State Fire Service and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps also supported the operation.

Following the extinguishing of the fire, the firefighters conducted a thorough inspection of the premises and confirmed that there was no further threat before returning to the station at 5:28pm.

The command commended the prompt reporting of the incident, saying the timely distress call enabled the firefighters to respond quickly and effectively.

The FFS urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report fire emergencies.

It also advised residents to ensure that electrical installations were regularly inspected and maintained by qualified personnel.
