FG honours Ogun LG chairman for grassroots governance

The Bureau of Public Service Reforms has honoured the Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, Chief Lanre Oyegbola-Sodipo, with an Award of Excellence for his contributions to grassroots governance and development.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday, Oyegbola-Sodipo received the award during the Nigeria Public Service Lecture Series and Awards held in Abuja to commemorate the 2026 United Nations Public Service Day.

The organisers said the recognition followed a merit-based assessment process involving stakeholders’ nominations and an independent review of performance indicators, which culminated in the emergence of the Abeokuta North chairman from a competitive field of local government chairmen across the South-West geopolitical zone.

Oyegbola-Sodipo dedicated the award to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Senator Solomon Adeola, describing their support and commitment to development as instrumental to his achievements in office.

Speaking while receiving the award, the council chairman said the recognition reflected the enabling environment created by the state government and the developmental initiatives being championed across Ogun State.

“This recognition is a reflection of the enabling environment provided by Governor Dapo Abiodun, whose administration continues to encourage excellence in public service,” he said.

He also commended Adeola for what he described as his unwavering commitment to grassroots development.

Oyegbola-Sodipo expressed surprise at the recognition, saying it would further motivate him to serve the people more diligently.

“I didn’t see this coming, but my strong belief is that whatever opportunity you are given in life should be deployed to advance the betterment of the people. That is how we can close the gaps and take this nation to greater heights.

“With this award, I am more encouraged to do a lot more for the people at the grassroots. We will not lose focus; our eyes will remain on the ball, and we shall continue to do all that is within our sphere of influence to complement the efforts of both the state and Federal Government and ensure that life becomes more meaningful for rural dwellers,” he said.

The local government chairman also commended residents and workers of Abeokuta North Local Government for their support and cooperation, which he said had contributed significantly to the successes recorded by his administration.
