Federal Government Pushes Back 2026 Textbook Evaluation Deadline to August 7

The Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council has granted a final extension for submitting textbooks and instructional materials for the 2026 Phase I assessment, reassessment, and ranking exercise, with a new deadline of August 7, 2026, for publishers, authors, and stakeholders to complete their submissions.

This extension, approved by the Federal Ministry of Education, replaces the previous deadline of July 3, 2026, and aims to boost participation in the national textbook evaluation while giving stakeholders extra time to finalize and submit their materials.

According to a statement by NERDC's Executive Secretary, Prof. Salisu Shehu, the extension will enable more publishers, authors, and industry participants to join the 2026 Phase I textbook assessment process.

The statement emphasized that this final extension is intended to facilitate broader participation and provide an additional opportunity for publishers, authors, and eligible stakeholders to submit their materials for the 2026 Phase I textbook assessment, reassessment, and ranking exercise.

NERDC urged potential participants to utilize this final window, stressing that all submissions must adhere to the approved procedures outlined in the Textbook Quality Indicators and Submission Guidelines, which remain unchanged and are available on the council's official website.

The council warned that the August 7 deadline is absolute, and no further extensions will be granted, with late submissions received after this date not being accepted under any circumstances.

NERDC expressed gratitude to publishers, authors, and stakeholders for their ongoing cooperation and encouraged them to ensure prompt compliance with submission requirements to facilitate a smooth assessment and ranking process.
