Federal agency acquires property in nearly thirty states to boost low-cost housing development

The Federal Housing Authority has acquired prime land in 28 states across the country, marking a significant step towards expanding its housing projects and increasing access to affordable housing.

This development is part of the authority's efforts to establish a presence in all regions of the country, with each of the 28 state governors providing prime land for the projects.

Ezekiel Etuk, Executive Director of Estate Services at the Federal Housing Authority, represented the authority's Managing Director at the groundbreaking ceremony for the FHA Green City Estate in Abuja on Wednesday, where he announced that construction activities have commenced in several states.

Etuk stated that the authority has already broken ground in Akwa Ibom State, Abia State, Kaduna, Abeokuta, and Abuja, with more projects slated to begin soon.

The Federal Housing Authority is undergoing reforms aimed at enhancing service delivery and safeguarding property records, with a focus on improving the overall efficiency of its operations.

As part of these reforms, the authority has digitalized its property files, which are now stored on the Galaxy backbone, and is working towards full automation of all aspects of its operations.

A test laboratory has also been established, where geological and integrity tests are conducted to ensure the quality of the authority's projects.

Over the past 26 months, the Federal Housing Authority has completed and commissioned several inherited projects, including 100 units of houses in the FHA Estate at Ibadan and the FHA Expressview Estate in Lugbe, Abuja.

Other completed projects include the FHA Complex in Lugbe, Abuja, and the FHA Shopping Mall in Gwarinpa, Abuja, all of which were previously considered irredeemable and unachievable.

The authority is currently working on a 336-unit housing estate in Bwari, Abuja, with a target completion date set for the end of the year.

Ezekiel Etuk expressed his appreciation to the Federal Capital Territory Administration, regulatory agencies, and the host community for their support and cooperation, which have made the project possible.

The Federal Housing Authority has assured prospective homeowners and investors that it will maintain the highest standards of quality assurance, transparency, and accountability throughout the execution of the project.

Oba Akintoye Adeoye, President of the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria, described the project as a demonstration of the opportunities within Nigeria's housing sector and the impact of the Federal Government's housing agenda.

Adeoye commended the Federal Government and the Federal Housing Authority for their efforts to strengthen the housing sector and stimulate economic development.

The Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria remains committed to supporting policies that promote housing delivery, facilitate access to affordable finance, and create an enabling environment for developers to thrive.

Adeoye urged stakeholders to work together to promote sustainable and inclusive housing solutions that will ensure every Nigerian has access to decent and affordable homes.

Warren Augusta, representing Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, stated that the project aligns with efforts to address Nigeria's housing deficit.

Augusta conveyed the Secretary to the Government of the Federation's belief that the project will contribute significantly to reducing the housing shortfall in the Federal Capital Territory.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation also expressed his congratulations to the MD of Green Home Pastures and its workforce for their good work in the FCT and its environs.

Augusta assured the project promoters of the office's support and willingness to provide necessary assistance as required.
