Fatal Road Accident in Bauchi Claims Nine Lives, Leaves Eight Hurt

A devastating road crash near Zangoro village along the Bauchi-Maiduguri Federal Highway has claimed the lives of nine people, with their bodies burnt beyond recognition, while eight others suffered injuries of varying severity.

The incident was confirmed by the Federal Road Safety Corps in a First Information Report issued on Tuesday by the Bauchi Sector Command, which provided details of the tragic event.

The crash occurred at approximately 11:20 p.m. on Monday, and a report was made to the FRSC just five minutes later, prompting a swift response from the authorities.

FRSC personnel, led by Senior Road Marshal Assistant Suleiman Adamu Toro, arrived at the scene by 11:40 p.m., achieving a response time of 15 minutes, and quickly set about assessing the situation.

The accident involved a commercial Toyota bus, registered as DRZ 133 LG, and a MAN diesel tipper, which was transporting sand but had no registration number, resulting in a catastrophic collision.

A total of 17 male adults were caught up in the crash, with nine confirmed to have died after being burnt beyond recognition, and eight others sustaining injuries that required medical attention.

According to Toro, the probable cause of the crash was a tyre burst that occurred while the commercial bus was in motion, leading to a loss of control and the subsequent accident.

The damaged vehicles and other items recovered from the scene were handed over to the Motor Traffic Division of the Bauchi State Police Command for further investigation and analysis.

FRSC personnel worked tirelessly to establish the identities of the victims, a process that was completed on Tuesday, allowing for the notification of next of kin and other necessary procedures.

The injured victims were transported to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, for treatment, while the bodies of those who died were deposited in the hospital morgue, pending further arrangements.
