Farm produce inspection agency delays announcement of job applicant finalists

The Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service has delayed the release of its shortlisted candidates for the ongoing recruitment exercise, which was originally set for Thursday, August 13, to guarantee a rigorous, transparent, and precise hiring process.

ACG Issaka Ahmed, the Director of Human Resources, announced the postponement in a public notice posted on the agency's X handle on Friday, citing the need for a thorough and accurate process.

The notice apologized for the inconvenience caused by the delay and asked applicants and the public to remain patient, assuring them that a new date will be announced through official channels.

The agency expressed regret over any uncertainty or inconvenience resulting from the delay and appreciated the patience and understanding of all applicants, promising to communicate a new date in due course.

The recruitment exercise, which took place from July 28 to August 10, drew a significant response, with 606,928 attempted applications and 407,659 successfully submitted applications, according to NAQS statistics released on Wednesday.

A total of 199,269 applications were incomplete by the end of the application period, highlighting the need for applicants to ensure completeness in their submissions.

The Assistant Superintendent of Quarantine II cadre received the most applications, with 290,076, followed by Quarantine Assistant II with 117,177 applications, and other cadres including NCE, OND, and Superintendent categories.

The specific breakdown of applications revealed 79,685 for the NCE category, 70,170 for OND, and 13,183 for the Superintendent cadre requiring a master's degree, showcasing the diverse range of applicants.

Although NAQS initially planned to conduct a computer-based test and interviews on August 15, following the release of shortlisted candidates on August 13, new dates will now be awaited by candidates.

The recruitment exercise encompasses various cadres, including the Superintendent, Inspectorate, and Assistant cadres, covering a broad spectrum of positions within the agency.
