Family of late comedian Mr Ibu appeals for help with outstanding rent and tuition payments

The widow of renowned Nollywood actor John Okafor, famously known as Mr Ibu, has made a heartfelt appeal to Nigerians, revealing that she and her children are facing immense difficulties in paying rent, school fees, and meeting other essential needs.

In a poignant video interview with content creator King Mitchy, the actor's wife and children opened up about their struggles to make ends meet following his passing, offering a glimpse into their challenging living conditions.

With emotion etched on her face, the widow disclosed that the family has been without electricity for approximately two months, as their power supply was disconnected due to unpaid bills, forcing them to endure a prolonged period of darkness.

She further revealed that their financial struggles have led them to rely on water from a well, as they are unable to afford alternative sources, highlighting the severity of their situation.

The widow expressed her difficulties, stating "We fetch water from the well, I have not paid the house rent, and they have even cut my lights for two months now, no lights since, we have been like that, every night we go to look for a place to charge our phones, and… It’s not easy," she said.

One of the actor's daughters praised her mother's resilience and dedication to keeping the family together, saying "I want to thank God for my mom, she tries everything she can to feed us, to pay our school fees, to make us happy," in a testament to her mother's unwavering efforts.

The widow further revealed that her children are at risk of being forced to drop out of school due to unpaid fees, saying "Right now, they can’t go to school again, I can even show you the message the school sent me today," highlighting the urgency of their situation.

King Mitchy, the content creator who conducted the interview, stated that support is being sought to help the family pay school fees, settle rent, and restore electricity to their home, in an effort to alleviate their struggles.

Mr Ibu, one of Nigeria's most beloved comic actors, passed away on March 2, 2024, at the age of 62, leaving behind a legacy and a family in need of support.
