Falcons flaunt ‘Adire’ ahead WAFCON opener

Defending champions the Super Falcons arrived in Rabat, Morocco, in style on Saturday, dressed in elegant green-and-white Adire gowns with matching headwraps as they settled in for their quest to win a record-extending 11th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The players also embraced the moment off the pitch by creating social media content showcasing the traditional outfits.

Esther Okoronkwo, Jennifer Echegini and Michelle Alozie shared a light-hearted video themed “Rich Aunty Vibes,” while goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie entertained fans with a series of comic skits and poses.

Defender Tosin Demehin and Folashade Ijamilusi were among other players who also posted photos and videos celebrating the team’s arrival in the colourful attire.

Nigeria’s arrival in Rabat followed the conclusion of a 10-day training camp in Casablanca, where head coach Justine Madugu fine-tuned his squad ahead of the tournament.

The Super Falcons wrapped up their preparations with a 2-1 victory over Tanzania in an international friendly on Thursday, providing a timely confidence boost before the competition.

Nigeria, the most successful team in the history of the tournament, will begin their Group C campaign against Malawi on Tuesday at the Al Madina Stadium in Rabat. They will then face Zambia on Saturday, August 1, at the same venue before concluding the group stage against Egypt on Wednesday, August 5, at the Olympic Stadium.

Adding to the excitement ahead of the tournament, the Nigeria Football Federation unveiled a special 10-star Super Falcons jersey in honour of the team’s remarkable record.

The stars encircle the national badge, with each one representing one of Nigeria’s 10 WAFCON titles, celebrating the country’s unrivalled dominance in African women’s football.
