Details of the attack emerged when Bannu police official Muhammad Sajjad Khan revealed that a suicide bomber had driven an explosives-laden vehicle into a police checkpoint in the Fateh Khel area of Bannu the previous night, after which multiple militants stormed the post.

The death toll from the attack stands at 12 confirmed fatalities, with one more officer still missing, as disclosed by Muhammad Sajjad Khan, highlighting the latest incident in a wave of militancy plaguing the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border province.

Following the car blast, gunmen launched a fierce assault on the police checkpost, unleashing a barrage of gunfire, and also employed small drones to aid their attack, according to officials.
