Ex-PDP deputy chair mourns Tukur, says Nigeria lost a colossus

A former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chibudom Nwuche, on Tuesday described the death of former PDP National Chairman, Dr Bamanga Tukur, as a major loss to Nigeria.

Nwuche, who served as Deputy National Chairman of the PDP under Tukur between 2012 and 2014, described the deceased as his leader, mentor and father figure.

In a condolence message, Nwuche said Tukur’s contributions to the country cut across politics, public service and business, adding that he had lived a fulfilled life of service.

He said, “Tukur was more than a party chairman to me. As Deputy National Chairman of the PDP under his leadership from 2012 to 2014, I saw first-hand a statesman of uncommon wisdom, discipline and patriotism. He led the party with firmness, institutional knowledge and an unwavering belief in party supremacy and national unity.

“Nigeria has lost a colossus. At 90, he lived a fulfilled life of service – as General Manager of the Nigerian Ports Authority, governor of old Gongola State, minister, continental business leader through the African Business Roundtable and NEPAD Business Group, and as Tafidan Adamawa.

“He was urbane, generous, full of big ideas and bold enterprise. He believed deeply in Nigeria’s limitless potential and in grooming younger ones to serve.”

Nwuche said Tukur’s influence extended beyond his political responsibilities, noting his role in mentoring younger people and promoting national development.

He expressed condolences to the Tukur family, the Fombina Emirate, the Adamawa State Government and people, the PDP, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“On behalf of my family and political associates, I extend heartfelt condolences to the Tukur family, the Fombina Emirate, the government and people of Adamawa State, the PDP family, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“I also extend my condolences to Honourable Awal Tukur, the Secretary to the Government of Adamawa State, who was my colleague at the National Assembly from 1999 to 2003,” he added.

Tukur, who died at the age of 90, held several prominent positions in public service and politics, including Governor of the old Gongola State, Minister of Industries and National Chairman of the PDP.
