Ex-England winger Townsend escapes injury after pitch roller incident in Thailand

Former England winger Andros Townsend escaped injury after being run over by a pitch roller during a bizarre incident in Thailand.
nThe 35-year-old, who plays for Thai League 1 side PT Prachuap, was warming up before Saturday’s match at Pattani when a member of staff appeared to lose control of the heavy vehicle.
nAccording to BBc Sport on Saturday, Townsend’s left leg briefly became trapped underneath the pitch roller, but he was not injured in the incident.
nHe was able to continue and came off the bench late in the game as PT Prachuap secured a 3-0 victory.
nTownsend, who won 13 caps for England during his career, later made light of the incident on Instagram.
nReferencing an earlier post comparing a sunny Thai away trip with previous visits to Stoke City’s Bet365 Stadium, he wrote: “It turns out Stoke away wasn’t so bad after all. Swipe to see why.”
nThe former Tottenham, Luton and Crystal Palace winger’s joke was accompanied by footage of the unusual incident.
