Ex-Adamawa lawmaker joins governorship race, unveils agenda

The former member of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Wafari Theman, has joined the Adamawa State governorship race under the Young Progressives Party platform.

Unveiling his 17-point agenda on Monday in Yola, the state capital, Theman said he joined the race to bring into governance modern technology and skills that can speed up the state’s development.

“With modern technology, tackling insecurity in Adamawa State cannot be a difficult task. Security has gone beyond carrying an AK-47 into the forest; you use technology to detect where your enemies are and launch an attack without missing your target,” he said.

To address the security challenges, he said that if elected as the governor in 2027, he would establish Security Trust Funds to curb the state’s security challenges, adding that his manifesto, which contains 17 priority areas, will be based on practical evidence.

Theman stated further that his security blueprint will be a broad-based approach that would involve traditional rulers, civil society organisations, religious groups, youths and women’s groups.

He pointed out that his administration will prioritise rural communities where the majority of the citizens live, with a view to reviving cultural values through a coordinated platform and involvement of officials of various security agencies, among others.

“Under my government, no child will be out of school nor denied the opportunity to have basic education on account of poverty or financial standing of his parents,” the governorship aspirant assured.

He noted that his administration’s health policy would address all the gaps in the state’s health sector.
