The family of the Enugu State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Dr Malachy Agbo, on Sunday announced the death of their matriarch, Mrs Laurita Nwakaego Agbo (née Ortuanya).

In a statement issued on Sunday, the commissioner disclosed that his mother died on Friday, May 8, 2026, at the Niger Foundation Hospital in Enugu after a brief illness.

Dr Agbo described the deceased as a devoted Catholic, compassionate mother and a pillar of strength within both her family and community.

According to the statement, Mrs Agbo was widely known for her humility, generosity and lifelong commitment to humanitarian service, particularly within the Ohodo community and her Amufi village, where she remained a respected figure for decades.

“She was widely admired for her humility, generosity, unpretentiousness, and unwavering commitment to the service of humanity,” the statement read.|

Family members, associates and community leaders have continued to pay tribute to the late matriarch, describing her as a woman of deep faith, peaceful disposition and uncommon dedication to the welfare of others.

Agbo expressed appreciation to friends, associates and sympathisers for their prayers, support and solidarity during the family’s period of mourning.

The family added that funeral and burial arrangements would be announced at a later date.
