Emir, NECO registrar want corporate bodies to support traditional institutions

The Emir of Minna, Alhaji Farouq Bahago and the Registrar of the National Examination Council Prof Dantani Wushishi have called on corporate bodies to lend support to traditional institutions.

They made the call during the inauguration of the Palace of the Mai-Anguwan Gidan Mangoro Mallam Sani Zagi, constructed by the NECO Registrar and his traditional installation ceremony as the Maji Dadin Gidan Mangoro.

The duo, while urging corporate bodies to take advantage of the positive roles played by traditional institutions across the country, noted that the “education system thrives when communities are stable, peaceful, and well coordinated.”

The Emir who was represented by one of his chiefs, Salisu Garba, said that the peaceful coexistence enjoyed by NECO and the host communities over the years is a testament to the goodwill the examination body has enjoyed in the community.

Garba noted, “The palace symbolises unity, cultural heritage, and the enduring role of traditional institutions in strengthening social cohesion.

“With the construction of the palace, NECO has affirmed that tradition matters, and development must respect cultural foundations,” he said.

Prof. Wushishi in his keynote address remarked that the inauguration was the celebration of a partnership that reflected the conviction of NECO that corporate responsibility must extend beyond the primary mandate of examinations, certification and educational quality assurance.

He said, “As a Council, we understand that strong education systems thrive when communities are stable, peaceful, and well coordinated.

“Therefore, through our Social Responsibility activities, we contribute meaningfully to the welfare of our host communities, support traditional values and leadership, and encourage development,” he maintained.

The Registrar further disclosed that the community has equally demonstrated a high level of peace and maturity over the years, which, he pointed out has translated into a relationship that is both productive and cordial.

This, he stressed, had enabled NECO to operate effectively without unnecessary disruptions.

The Council also donated two transformers, motorised boreholes to Gidan Mangoro and Gbaganako communities.
