Emergency responders in Lagos pull man armed with blade to safety after he falls into deep hole

In a daring rescue operation, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service saved a man wielding a knife from a deep well in the Owutu area of Ikorodu, bringing an end to a dramatic incident that had unfolded earlier in the day.

The emergency call was received by the agency at around 7am on Sunday, prompting a swift response from the team, according to the Controller General, Margaret Adeseye.

Upon arrival at the scene, responders from the Ikorodu Fire Station found the man inside the well, armed with a knife and resisting attempts to rescue him, necessitating a cautious approach to avoid any harm.

A video captured at the scene showed the victim claiming to have been assaulted while he was asleep, which allegedly led to the incident, with the man visibly distraught and agitated.

The rescue team had to exercise extreme caution due to the victim's evasive behavior and the fact that he was holding a knife, making the operation even more challenging and delicate.

Fortunately, officers from the Nigeria Police, Owutu Division, provided crucial support during the operation, helping to ensure a successful outcome and the safety of all parties involved.

After a tense and difficult rescue effort, the man was finally pulled to safety alive, confirming the success of the operation, as announced by the Controller General, Margaret Adeseye.

In addition to the well rescue, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service also responded to two separate fire incidents earlier in the day, demonstrating the agency's readiness and capabilities to handle a range of emergencies.

One of the fire incidents occurred at an abandoned warehouse in Ikeja, where firefighters had to force their way into the locked premises to bring the blaze under control, fortunately resulting in no reported casualties.

A second fire incident was reported at a power facility in Surulere, which was attributed to a snapped lightning arrestor, and was successfully contained by the responders without any casualties or further damage.
